Robert L. "Bob" Thompson was born in Louisville, KY. He had a nine-year art career for which he received acclaim and success, completing  over 1,000 works, including LeRoi Jones [Amiri Baraka] and His Family in 1964 (see middle painting on the last set of three works on the linked page). Thompson died in Rome after gall bladder surgery at the age of 29 in 1966.
