Jordan, George

Born in Williamson, KY, George Jordan's thirty years of military service began in 1866 when he joined the 9th Cavalry in Nashville and ended at Fort Robinson, NE in 1897. He participated in conflicts with Native Americans, Mexicans, and U. S. outlaws, helping to open the West and winning a Congressional Medal of Honor for his efforts.

Jordan retired to Crawford, NE in a small African American community. He later became ill but could not gain entrance into the Fort Robinson hospital and died a few days later. He is buried at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell, NE.
