Jackson, Richard E.

(born: 1894  -  died: 1953)

Jackson was born in July 1894 in Anderson County and can be found on the1900 Anderson County Census as the son of Lena Jackson.

He served during in World War I as a private in the U.S. Army with the 552nd Engineers* (as noted on his gravestone). He died  May 29, 1953 and is buried at Woodlawn Hills Cemetery. He can be found in a list  of soldiers from that war compiled by Mr. Wyatt  Shely, Anderson County historian.

While the 52nd Engineer Battalion built roads in WWI France, records specifically for a "552nd Engineers" in WWI are scarece in snippets, suggesting it might be a misremembering of tht 52nd Engineers (who were active in WWI) or perhaps a smaller unit/special detachment, as combat engineers built crucial infrastructure like bridges, roads, and rail lines ror the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in France.
