Brown, Steve

(born: 1890  -  died: 1942) 

Brown was born in January 1890 in Anderson County. He is found on the 1900 Anderson County Census as a 10-year old boy living with his widowed mother, Mattie Lytle.

Brown appears on a list of Anderson County men who were soldiers during World War I; he enlisted August 22, 1918. He served in the war as a private in Company C of the 549th Engineer Battalion in the Machine Gun Company of the 10th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, and was part of the American Expeditionary Forces in France from November 10, 1918 until July 5, 1919. Brown was discharged July 12, 1919 at Camp Zachary Taylor, KY.

A copy of Brown's discharge is on file at the Anderson County Courthouse in Lawrenceburg. 

Steve Brown died July 30, 1942 and is buried at Woodlawn Hills Cemetery.
