Virginia Lee Haley was born in Maysville, KY, the daughter of Lansing and Katherine Moore Haley. The family is enumerated in the 1930 and the 1940 U.S. Censuses. In the 1940 census, the race notation has been misinterpreted as white. Virginia's mother was a widow in 1940; Virginia's father had died in 1936. Her mother died in 1949.
Virginia L. Haley was a nurse when she enlisted in the Army at Fort Hayes, OH, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases. She was living in Cleveland, OH when she enlisted. She was still in the military when she married James Martin Jones, Jr. at Fort Huachuca in Arizona November 18, 1943. After their military service, Virginia and her husband lived in Marion, OH, where her husband had lived before his military service.
Virginia L. Jones worked with her husband in his medical practice. They later lived in Columbus, where Virginia Lee Haley Jones died in 2013. She is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marion, OH.
