She returned to Lexington after her military service, and in 1948 married Emmanuel Watson there; the couple and their family lived together in Lexington. Ethel Watson was employed as a head start teacher prior to her death. She is buried in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens and Mausoleum in Nicholasville, KY.
