Freeman, Maggie L.
(born: 1875 - died: 1917)Maggie L. Freeman was an educator and early African American woman school principal in Bourbon County, KY. She was born in Bourbon County, the daughter of Mary and Willis Freeman.
According to the U.S. Federal Census in 1910, Freeman was a high school teacher at the Colored School in Paris, living with her father. She had been a teacher at the school since 1903 when she was elected as one of six teachers under principal J. C. Stone.
Freeman became principal of the Bourbon County Training School around 1911. The school was located in Little Rock and was still in operation in 1933. She later left Kentucky and taught in Florida. She died in West Palm Beach, FL, on December 19, 1917, and was buried three days later in Paris, KY [source: Florida Deaths Index].
