Williams, Corinne Denny
(born: 1920 - died: 2015)Corinne Denny Williams was the first African American graduate of The General Hospital School of Radiography in Louisville, KY, and is recognized by many as the first African American X-ray technician in Kentucky. With the help of Dr. John H. Walls, Corinne D. Williams was able to enter the program in the 1940s, a program that had been barred to African Americans. She was the first X-ray technician at the Louisville Red Cross Hospital and continued to advance to become the hospital's assistant administrator. Years later, Corinne D. Williams moved with her daughter to New York City, NY. Corinne Denny Williams was born in Garrard County, KY [source: Kentucky Vital Records Index], and her family later moved to Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of George Bradley Denny and Susie Mae Kennedy Denny [source: 1940 U.S. Census].
