Robinson, Kathy Elise Conway
(born: 1960 - died: 2019)Kathy Elise Conway Robinson came to Kentucky from St. Louis, MO in 1983, accompanying her sister, who was in the military and had been transferred to Paducah.
In 1988, Robinson wanted to sell music but, recognizing the need for a community news outlet, she created The Kentucky Voice, marking the return of a newspaper that focused on the African American community in Paducah. Editor and publisher T. A. Lawrence had published a paper with that focus in Paducah in the 1920s, as had Pleasant A. Nichols in the late 1800s.
The Kentucky Voice was published monthly with home delivery available at $1 per month. The Murray Ledger & Times newspaper printed The Kentucky Voice, and Thomas Bell took care of the graphic design and production.
Kathy Robinson was also head of the non-profit "The Genesis House: A Place for New Beginnings," an economic development and resource center. She and her husband, Ernie Robinson, also owned a beauty supply store, which allowed them to continue their ministry.
Kathy Robinson died in Bowling Green, KY on September 19, 2019. She was the daughter of William Boyce Conway and Mary Ethel Henderson Conway. See her obituary and photograph at the Milner and Orr Funeral Home website.
