Nora C. Motley King, a schoolteacher, was the first woman elected to the Lebanon City Council, in 1971; she ran on the Independent ticket. King retired from teaching in 1973, she taught in Marion, Nelson, and Taylor Counties in Kentucky. She was a member of the Lily of the Valley Eastern Star Lodge #124. 

Nora C. M. King died in 1993 in Lebanon, KY, and is buried at Ryder Cemetery. She was born in Hardin County, KY, the daughter of Thomas and Melvina B. Saunders Compton. She was the wife of John Motley who died in 1972, and she later married Willie Olean King who died in 1995.
