(born: c. 1831) Henry Wallace was born a slave about 1831 in Kentucky. During the Civil War, Henry was in Fayette County on the John Wallace farm. In 1864 he testified he was 33 years old and a resident of Fayette County when he volunteered to join the Union Army. He enrolled as a private in Company G of the 6th U.S. Colored Cavalry Regiment at Camp Nelson on September 1, 1864; he was later promoted to corporal.

The 6th Colored Cavalry Regiment  saw action in southwestern Virginia and performed garrison duty in Kentucky and Arkansas before being mustered out in 1866.

After the war Henry lived in Anderson County; he is listed on the 1870 Federal Census as a 36-year old resident of F. M. Bowen's hotel, where he worked as a night watchman.
