Thurman, Silas

(born: c. 1890) Silas Thurman was born about 1890 in Georgetown, KY. He was the son of Eve Thurman and an unknown father. Silas is listed on the 1910 Anderson County Census as a 20-year old black male living in his brother's home with their widowed mother.

Thurman served during World War I as a private in Company E of the 64th Pioneer Infantry Regiment of the U.S. Army. He was inducted into the service at Lawrenceburg on July 29, 1918, described as a 24-year old single man with brown eyes, black hair and colored complexion, five feet seven inches tall. He was discharged Camp Taylor, KY on  December 15, 1919. A copy of his discharge is on file at the Anderson County Courthouse in Lawrenceburg. Thurman is also  found on a list of soldiers from that war compiled by Mr. Wyatt  Shely, Anderson County historian.
