Smith, Green

(born: c. 1819) 

Green Smith was born a slave about 1819 in Kentucky. In 1865 he made his way to Camp Nelson and volunteered as a private in Company I of the 119th U.S. Colored Infantry Regiment, which was organized January 18- May 16, 1865 and attached to the Department of Kentucky.

The 119th saw duty at various posts, all within the state of Kentucky, until it was mustered out of service April 27, 1866.

Green Smith was a resident of Lawrenceburg and appears on the 1870 Anderson County Federal Census as a 51-year old man with wife Sarah and children Green, Jr.,  Noah, and Ann.
