Redd, John Murray

(born: 1888  -  died: 1946) John Redd Murray was born February 11, 1888 in Shelby County; he died in April 26, 1946 and is buried in Woodlawn Hills Cemetery. He appears on the 1910 Census as a 22-year old Black man living as a servant in the Mrs. Sallie Wash household.

Redd served during World War I as a private in Company D of the Service Battalion of the Engineers Corps of the U.S. Army. He was inducted at Lawrenceburg August 22, 1918 and discharged April 1, 1919. A copy of his  discharge is on file at the Anderson County Courthouse. He is included on a list of soldiers from World War I compiled by Mr. Wyatt  Shely, Anderson County historian.
