Dawson, Frederick Douglass "Spud"
(born: April 15, 1909 - died: January 26, 1947)Frederick Douglass Dawson was editor of the Globe Journal newspaper in Hopkinsville, KY. He was also a cement contractor. Dawson was said to be in the undertaker business in 1939 when undertaker Edward Babbage filed a lawsuit of criminal libel against Dawson for an article published in his newspaper. The case was settled when Dawson made a public apology to Babbage.
Frederick D. Dawson was a graduate of West Kentucky Industrial College [now West Kentucky Community and Technical College]. He was born in Trigg County, KY, the son of Peter and Mittie Dawson. He was the husband of Jennie Bell Dawson, and a brother to Osceola Dawson. Frederick Douglass Dawson died in 1947 at Moore's Hospital in Hopkinsville. Dr. Bankie O. Moore's Colored Hospital (1931-1953) was one of two African American Hospitals in Hopkinsville.
