Colored News and Colored News of Interest (Russellville Newspaper)

In 1943, John Ella Dickerson was the Colored News Reporter for The News-Democrat newspaper in Russellville, KY. Her article, "Colored farmers taking part in the war effort," was published on February 11, 1943. Her articles about the African American community appeared in the newspaper with other news items. A few years later, in August of 1947, there was a column dedicated to such news. The column headings were "Colored News of Interest" and "Colored News." There was news from Russellville, Oakville, Lewisburg, and Knob City. The first print of the column news was a brief paragraph that grew to be three or four brief paragraphs. The "Colored News" and "Colored News of Interest" column continued until September of 1959.
