Murrel R. Wilks Winfield was separated from her husband when she enlisted in the Army in Pittsburgh, PA, according to the record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases. Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of Maude Herard and William Wilks.
Murrel R. Wilks was married to Dave Winfield, a barber from Alabama. The couple had three children and lived in Canton, OH when the family was enumerated in the 1930 U.S. Census. The children were Nelley, Maude, and Joe. The family was living with George Carter in Pittsburgh, PA when they were enumerated in the 1940 U.S. Census.
Murrel R. Winfield enlisted in the Army in 1943. After her service, she was living in Pittsburgh when she signed for her 20-year-old daughter Maude to get married in 1946. Murrel R. Wilks Winfield died in Fairmont, WV.
