Marie E. Lynem was born in Lexington, KY, the daughter of Marie Hayes and Rev. Sheley Lynem. The Lynem family is enumerated in the 1920 U.S. Census when they were living in Elmarach, KY with Laura Lynem, Sheley's mother. In the 1930 U.S. Census, the family lived in Sylvandell, KY. In the 1940 U.S. Census, the family was living in Midway, KY. 

Marie E. Lynem joined the Army in 1942 in Cincinnati, OH, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases. After her military service she returned to Midway. Marie E. Lynem Johnson died in Midway and is buried in Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, KY. She was the wife of David W. Johnson and a sister of Carl Lynem.
