Zella H. Grooms was living in Cincinnati, OH, when she enlisted in the Army, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases and in Ancestry. She was born in Princeton, KY, the daughter of Lucille Easley and Willie Grooms. In the 1930 U.S. Census, Zella Grooms lived in Henderson, KY, with her grandparents, Rev. L. G. and Pauline Easley.

By 1942, Zella H. Grooms was living in Cincinnati, OH, and two years later she enlisted in the Army. After her military service, Zella H. Grooms returned to Cincinnati where she purchased a piece of property on Audubon Street. She was employed as a typist at the VA in 1951. The following year, she got married on September 30, 1952. The next year, the couple filed for divorce that was granted in 1954. Zella Grooms later married William Anderson. She remained in Cincinnati where she died in 1987. Zella Anderson is buried in Landmark Memorial Gardens.
