Annie Bessie Branham Thurman was married to James C. Thurman when she enlisted in the Army in Cincinnati, OH, according to her record in Ancestry. She was born in Hickman, KY, the daughter of James Thomas Branham and Carrie Beatrice Whitley Branham. She was living with her parents when the family was enumerated in the 1940 U.S. Census and still living in Hickman when she enlisted in the Army.

After her military career, as late as 1959, Annie and her husband James were living in South Bend, IN. The couple had divorced when Annie was working as a nurse's aide in South Bend; she married George Henry Rice, Sr., also from Hickman, in 1987. Annie Bessie Branham Thurman Rice was a widow when she died in South Bend, IN in 2003. She is buried in the Portage Manor Cemetery.
