Jamison, Harold P. "Candy"
(born: 1931) Harold P. "Candy" Jamison was a champion amateur boxer in Ohio, and he was later a boxing trainer in Cincinnati and Chicago. Harold Jamison said that he was born in Lexington, KY. He boxed in the flyweight division (108-112 pounds), many times against much younger opponents.Pete Rose, baseball player, says that he was 14 years old when he lost a boxing bout against Candy Jamison in 1955 at the Finlay Street Neighborhood House in Cincinnati [source: Play Hungry by Pete Rose, p.20]. Candy Jamison would have been about 24 years old. In 1957, Candy Jamison, a flyweight contender, fought as a member of the Ohio A.A.U. Tournament in Dayton. Jamison won his bout against Joe Geoger with a TKO in the 2nd round [source: "3 local fighters in AAU defeats, "The Zanesville Signal, 03/30/1957, p.10]. Candy Jamison fought at 112 pounds. In 1959, at Cincinnati Gardens, the national intercity boxing championship was held between Cincinnati and Chicago. In 1961, Candy Jamison was the Ohio Amateur Flyweight Boxing Champion. In some reports about his arrest, Jamison was said to be the oldest amateur boxer in Cincinnati.
