Strider, Benjamin F., Jr. [Colored Shoe Makers Union]
(born: September 8, 1870 - died: April 30, 1942)In 1911, the Colored Shoe Makers Union meeting was held in Hamilton, OH. Benjamin Franklin Strider, Jr. from Lexington, KY, was the speaker at the barbecue held during the meeting. The Boot and Shoe Makers Union had very few colored members in 1911. It is not known when the Colored Shoe Makers Union was formed or how long it existed. Benjamin Strider was a shoemaker and shared his business with Harry Nichols. The Strider & Nichols business was located at 333 Race Street [source: p. 579 of the Lexington City Directory 1909].
Benjamin F. Strider was born in Lexington, KY, the son of Mary Triggs Strider and Rev. Benjamin J. Strider [source: B. F. Strider's death certificate]. He was the husband of Nannie Ford Strider. Benjamin F. Strider was buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Lexington. He was the father of Mrs. Louise Chenault and Henry Lee Strider.
