Born in Camden, NJ, the ninth of ten children, Valerie Still, a 6' 1" forward, was the leading scorer and rebounder in the history of the University of Kentucky basketball with 2,763 points and 1,525 rebounds; she was second in the nation in both categories. Her jersey (no. 12) was retired in Memorial Coliseum in January 2003.

Still played professional basketball in Italy for 12 years, then acted and had a television show there. She was a WNBA player with the Washington Mystics and the Columbus Quest. She lead the Columbus Quest to back-to-back ABL Championships. Valerie Still was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.

Valerie married Rob Lock in 1995 after meeting him in Italy. They have one child, Aaron Lock. They divorced in 2007.
