Key Newsjournal (newspaper)
The Key Newsjournal newspaper was founded in 2003 by Patrice K. and LaMaughn Muhammad. The paper is published by LexTown Publications, a company also owned by the Muhammads. The biweekly newspaper focuses on the African American population in Central Kentucky.Initially, the paper was available in Winchester, Richmond, Berea, Nicholasville, Frankfort, and Georgetown, but the circulation region has expanded over the years. It is one of the few newspapers in Lexington to focus on the African American community since the early 1900s. Another African American newspaper, Community Voice, ceased publication in 2001.
In addition to the Key Newsjournal, Patrice Muhammad also has a radio show, Key Conversations, broadcast Sundays at 10 a.m. on Groovin 1580 AM, also available online. LexTown Publications also publishes The Lexington and Central Kentucky Black Book, a resource directory. Patrice Muhammad is a native of Detroit, MI, and a graduate of Central State University.
