Tinsley, Henry Clay
(born: 1871 - died: 1933)Henry Clay Tinsley was born in London, KY, the son of Preston and Caroline Severe Tinsley. In 1880, the family was still living in Laurel County, KY, according to the U.S. Census, and Henry, at the age of 10, was listed as a laborer. Later in life, he would become a teacher, physician, and surgeon.
Tinsley completed his undergraduate work at Berea College in 1900; he had started grammar school at the age of 20, completing his B.L. degree at the age of 31. He received his M.D. from Meharry Medical College in 1903, then started his practice in Georgetown, KY.
Tinsley was also vice-president of the Georgetown Mercantile Stock Company. He would leave Georgetown, and by 1920 he was widowed and practicing medicine in St. Louis, MO, according to the Federal Census. Tinsley was still living in St. Louis in 1930.
Henry Clay Tinsley committed suicide (cyanide poisoning) on January 9, 1933 in St. Louis [source: Missouri Certificate of Death, File No. 3453, Registered No. 352 in Missouri Digital Heritage].
