Bowles, Joseph William

(born: 1858  -  died: 1942) 

Joseph William Bowles, born in Mississippi, was named a Kentucky Colonel by Governor Bradley, the first African American to be named a Kentucky Colonel. Bowles was also described as a Republican leader. For more see "Death Roll" in The Negro Handbook 1944 compiled and edited by F. Murray.
