Silas Jones was born in Brentsville (Bourbon County), KY, the son of John E. and Mary L. Stone Jones. He was the founder and director of WordPlay and author of books of fiction, short stories, and plays, including Waiting For Mongo, Children Of All, and God in Little Pieces. Jones also wrote for films, television, and radio. Jones earned his B.A. in English from Washington State University. Many of his plays have not been published nor made available to the general public. He served as playwright instructor for Wordsmiths (Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Department, Los Angeles Theatre Center). Among other influences brought about by his work, Wordsmiths inspired Mary Steelsmith to write, and her one act plays that resulted from that workshop still enjoy successful productions countrywide and internationally.

Silas Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, which he joined after high school, serving in Korea. He  died July 16, 2016 in Los Angeles, CA and is buried with his parents in the Cherry Grove Cemetery in Cynthiana, KY.
