Smith, Walton Norwood

Walton N. Smith, born in Hopkinsville, KY, was the first African American appointed to the executive board of the Hopkinsville Chamber of Commerce and also the first to chair an Area Development District in Kentucky. The Hopkinsville Housing Authority named the Walton Smith Park in his honor in 1982. Smith was a World War II veteran and served as minister of Campbell Street Church of Christ in Hopkinsville. The owner/operator of Smith Masonry, he taught brick masonry at Hopkinsville Community College. Walton N. Smith was the son of Rubye L. Merriwether and Robert A. Smith.
