James, Grace Marilynn

(born: 1923  -  died: 1989) 

A pediatrician, Grace M. James was the first African American woman member of the Jefferson County Medical Society and the first African American woman admitted to the University of Louisville School of Medicine. She founded the West Louisville Medical Center. The Grace M. James Papers are housed at the University of Louisville Archives and Records Center. Grace M. James was born in Charleston, WV, the daughter of Edward L. and Stella G. Shaw James.
