Mack, Essie Dortch

Essie D. Mack assisted with the organization of the first African American kindergarten at Phillis Wheatley Colored School in Louisville, KY. She was president of the Kentucky Colored Parent-Teacher Association for nine years and president of the National Congress of Colored Parent-Teachers Associations for two terms. Essie D. Mack was the wife of Oliver P. Mack (1881-1941). She was the daughter of John and Emma Talbert Mack [source: Kentucky Death Certificate file no.19240]. Her funeral was handled by A. D.
