Beauty Shops (Louisville, KY)

In 1968 the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights conducted a study on the nature and extent of Negro ownership of businesses in Louisville, finding that beauty shops were a leading business.  Of the 490 Negro-owned businesses, 42.2% were beauty shops and 19.3% barber shops.

Within Louisville as a whole, Negro-owned beauty shops were 42.74% of the total number of beauty shops in the city and 32.14% in the entire county.
