Scott, Attica

In May of 2016, Kentucky native Attica Scott was the winner of the Democratic Primary for the 41st House District in Louisville, Kentucky. She won 54% of the vote. Her district is 50% black and 50% white. With no Republican candidate to challenge her on Election Day, November 8, 2016, Attica Scott becomes the next African American woman to serve in the Kentucky Legislature after almost 20 years. Her historic election follows that of Eleanor Jordan who was elected to the Kentucky House in November of 1998. Jordan was a mentor to Attica Scott during her campaign. To date, all of the African American women legislators in Kentucky have come from Louisville, KY: Amelia Moore Tucker - (R)(H)1961-1963; Georgia D. Powers - (D)(S)1967-1988; Mae Street Kidd - (D)(H)1968-1984; Charlotte Smith McGill - (D)(H)1971-1977; Eleanor Jordan - (D)(H)1996-2000; and Attica Scott - (D)(H)2016. Prior to the 2016 election, Attica Scott served from 2011-2014 on the Louisville Metro Council where she was on several committees and she chaired the Vacant Properties Committee, and she chaired the Louisville Affordable Housing Trust Fund Work Group. She has also served as an adjunct professor at Bellarmine University and at Jefferson Community and Technical College. Attica Scott is a graduate of Knoxville College and the University of Tennessee.
