McClellan, Daryl Spencer
(born: October 4, 1962 - died: September 15, 2022)Daryl Spencer McClellan was an electrical engineer, a champion tennis player, and a trainer. He was employed with Meade Johnson, then with Vectren Corporation before becoming self-employed at Electrical Engineering Consultant. McClellan was a 2004 graduate of the University of Southern Indiana where he earned a master's degree in industrial management. He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Vanderbilt University, and a bachelor's degree in mathematics at Fisk University in 1984. McClellan was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
During his tennis career, Daryl McClellan was a top seeded champion player in Indiana and an athletics mentor and instructor. He had a long and successful tennis career that included the 1992 championship at the Memorial Day Open Tournament in Evansville. Two years later, McClellan was the #1 seed in the men's open singles finals in the 39th Memorial Day Open Tennis Tournament. In 2000, McClellan won the men's open and 35-year singles title in the Spring Tune Up Tournament. In 2018, he was the singles winner of the USTA Indiana Championship [United States Tennis Association].
McClellan was also a certified professional tennis instructor, a certified kickboxing instructor, and an exercise coach. He had overseen two high school tennis mentoring programs in Indiana. McClellan had participated in sports for many years. As a teenager in 1976, he won the $100 first place prize for picking the most correct number of football game wins in the Lexington Herald-Leader contest.
Daryl Spencer McClellan died in Newburgh, IN in 2022. He was born in Hopkinsville, KY, the son of Raymond E. McClelland and Martha Ann Spotts McClellan. He was a brother to Hassell H. McClellan and other siblings. The family lived in Georgetown, KY, where Daryl S. McClellan graduated from high school.
