Winstead, Welby Irvin
(born: March 29, 1950 - died: December 5, 2022)Welby I. Winstead was the first African American faculty member at the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Otolaryngology (ears, nose, & throat). He was a professor of head and neck surgery and was among the first African American otolaryngologist in academia in the United States. Dr. Winstead had also been a facial plastic surgeon with a private practice in Louisville. He was a graduate of Northwestern University and the John Hopkins University Medical School. Dr. Winstead was born in Louisville, KY, the son of Calvin R. and Cora L. Willis Winstead. He was the former husband of Marie Bradby.
