Colored Notes (Danville Newspapers)
(start date: 1932 - end date: 1968)In the last week of August 1932, The Daily Messenger newspaper printed the column "Colored Notes" with news about African Americans in the City of Danville, KY. The column ran until September of 1933.
In the Danville Daily Messenger, on September 7, 1934, p.2, a note was printed in the classified ads to the attention of the "Colored People" letting them know that the Lexington Herald newspaper would have a special column of "Danville Colored News." The ad ran for over a year, until November 16, 1935.
On November 15. 1942, the Kentucky Advocate printed the "Colored Notes" column with news of people, programs, and churches and organizations. The column was printed in the one newspaper issue, then was resumed in January of 1943. The column continued to be printed in each issue of the Kentucky Advocate and the Danville Advocate-Messenger. Mrs. Sophia P. Craig was the column editor in 1948. The last "Colored Notes" column was printed on April 15, 1968.
