Ora L. Tichenor was married when she enlisted in the Army in Indianapolis, IN, according to her record in the National Archives, Access to Archival Databases, and in Ancestry. She was born in Kentucky, the daughter of Rena Belle Gibson and James McFarland of Hebbardsville. Her mother was a widow when the eight family members were enumerated in the 1920 U.S. Census, all born in Kentucky and living in Evansville, IN. Her mother was employed as a laundress, and her older brother James worked at a plow factory.

Ora McFarland was not yet married and still living at home when she was listed on p. 401 in Bennett's Evansville (Vanderburgh County, IND.) City Directory, 1936. By 1938, she was married to George Tichenor, also from Kentucky: they were listed in the city directory and enumerated in the 1940 U.S. Census.

After her military service, Ora returned to Evansville. She would divorce and marry again; her name is Ora L. Anderson on her death certificate and social security death index in Ancestry. She died in Evansville in 1987 and is buried in the Locust Hill Cemetery.
