It was through the St. Joseph Mirror that editor Harry R. Graham and Isaac Frederick called for the formation of the Western Negro Press Association in 1896 [source: "Western Negro Press Association," Iowa State Bystander, 06/05/1908, front page, column 7 (online at Chronicling America)].
