Wallace, Edgar A. [Bluegrass Chronicle newspaper]

(born: 1944  -  died: 2020) The Bluegrass Chronicle was a weekly African American newspaper published in Lexington, KY from April 1978 - May 1980. The paper was founded and owned by Nicolas Martin, and Edgar Wallace who was an Urban County Councilman and former president of the Lexington NAACP. Martin and Wallace started the newspaper because they felt the Lexington Leader and the Lexington Herald were not adequately covering Lexington's Black community. Circulation was about 2,000.

Tolliver, "Chronicle still out of print," Lexington Leader, 1/12/1981; and "Bishop Edgar A. Wallace," at the Explore Xenia website.

Edgar Wallace left Lexington for Xenia, OH, where he was a community and religious leader. He was pastor of the First United Christian Church and a social work professor at Wilberforce University. He served on the Xenia City Council, 2016-2020, serving as Vice President of the Council. Source: S. Halasz, "Council member Edgar Wallace dies," Xenia Daily Gazette (online).
