Wilson, G. Marshall
(born: 1905 - died: 1998)G. Marshall Wilson was born October 14, 1905 in Covington, KY [source: World War I Draft Registration Card in Ancestry.com]. He lived much of his life in New York but died in Stuttgart, Germany. He was the husband of Ercelle G. Byrd and later Doris K. Wilson [source: Marriage Records. Chester, Pennsylvania Marriages].
Wilson was a long-time national and international photographer with Ebony, serving the magazine for 33 years before retiring in 1986. Among his noted photographs is the image of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. waving to the crowd in 1963 during the March on Washington (see photo link below).
Wilson was an honorary pallbearer at the funeral of fellow Kentucky photographer Moneta Sleet, Jr.; the two had worked together at Jet.
