Johnson, Samuel Harrison
(born: 1916 - died: 1999)Samuel H. Johnson was born in Bowling Green, KY, the son of Henry and Minerva Johnson. The family lived on Brown Street before moving to Indianapolis, IN when Samuel was a child.
Samuel earned several degrees at Indiana University Bloomington. For more than 20 years he was director of the Southeast Regional Office of the National Scholarship Service and Funds for Negro Students (NSSFNS). Beginning in 1946, NSSFNS has sought to interest promising students in higher education and provide financial assistance toward their attendance and graduation.
Johnson was also the founder of the Samuel H. Johnson SSSP Foundation, Inc., located in Decatur, GA. The organization's mission is to provide enhanced educational opportunities to students "of any race, color, national and ethnic origin."
