Carpenters (Louisville, KY)

In 1897, author W. H. Gibson, Sr. mentions the following African American carpenters in Louisville, KY: John Evans, Berry Evans, Jesse Merriwether, Willis Talbot, and John Jordan. These were only a few of the African American carpenters in the city; within the 1900 U.S. Census, approximately 100 African American carpenters are listed as  Louisville residents. The city of Louisville had over 2,000 carpenters (of all races) in the year 1900.
