Slave School in Greensburg, KY
In 1816 a notice was served to a slave named Joe, the property of W. Barret's heirs: Joe was ordered to close the school he had started for slaves. If he refused, upon conviction he was to receive 15 lashes, as would any slave who assembled to be educated at Joe's school.
