Ross, Gerald David
(born: June 8, 1908 - died: December 30, 1991)Born in Washington, KY, Gerald David Ross was appointed Aide to the Honorable Stanley F. Reed, Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, holding the job for 16 years. Ross left the job due to ill health. Justice Reed was from Maysville, KY; he hired Ross based on recommendations from former employees in Mason County, KY, and Ross had been Reed's golf caddy when they both lived at home. As his employee in Washngton, D.C., Ross kept Reed's library up to date, delivered his lunch, and obtained and returned requested books from the Library of Congress.

Ross had also worked for Justice Sherman Minton before his employment with Justice Reed. He worked for the justices while hired under Thomas E. Waggaman [source: Gerald D. Ross' WWII Draft card (Ancestry)]; Waggaman was Marshal of the U.S. Supreme Court. After his day job, Gerald D. Ross took jobs serving at dinner parties in the Washingto, D.C. area.
Before his move to Washington, D.C., Ross worked in a tobacco factory [source: 1930 U.S. Census]. When in Washington, D.C., one of the places he lived was as a lodger with the family of Alexander Dockey [source: 1940 U.S. Census]. In 1939, Ross had a (monthly?) salary of $1,200.
Gerald D. Ross remained in Washington, D.C. after he was no longer employed in the Department of Justice. He died December 30, 1991 and is buried in the Rock Creek Cemetery.
