Clayton, Edward T.

Death Year : 1966
Edward T. Clayton was born in Louisville, KY. He was sports editor of The Hawks Cry, a Tuskegee Air Field GI publication, 1944-1945. Clayton was also sports editor of The Louisville Defender, 1945-1948, and an associate editor with Ebony and Negro Digest. He was the first editor of Jet magazine. Clayton won the Wilkie Award in 1947 for revealing illegal taxicab services in Louisville. He was author of three books in 1964: The Negro politician, his success and failure; Martin Luther King: the peaceful warrior; and The SCLC Story. For more see In Black and White.
