Maupin, Milburn T.

Maupin, born in Louisville, KY, was the son of Mary and Miller Maupin. He was the first African American administrator hired in the central office of the Louisville school system. Maupin was also the first to become president of the Louisville Education Association, 1968-1970. He was the deputy superintendent of Jefferson County Schools when he retired in 1978. He had started his career as a teacher in 1949 and was an assistant high school principal in 1958; a year later he was promoted to principal. In his political life, Maupin was elected First Ward alderman in 1977. The Parkland School was renamed the Milburn T. Maupin Elementary School in his honor in 1985.
