Harris was the first African American to be hired full-time in Lexington televised news broadcasting, and she was the first African American anchor. She was at Kentucky State University when she was hired by Buzz Riggins, the WKYT News Director [prior to 1975]. Harris later moved on to WAVE and WDRB in Louisville, KY, and then to Nashville, Tennessee.
