Alston, Ethel B. Richardson
(born: 1949 - died: 2003) Alston, born in North Carolina, moved to Kentucky with her husband, Virnal J. Alston. It is thought that they were the first African American couple to be admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association. Mrs. Alston was a graduate of Spelman College, where she earned a B.A. in history, and she earned her law degreee at North Carolina Central University School of Law. She was a legislative analyst and attorney with the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission. Alston assisted with implementation issues relating to the Kentucky Educational Reform Act of 1990 and the Postsecondary Education Improvement Act of 1997. In 2003, the Legislative Education Staff Network posthumously awarded Alston the Recognition Award for her service to the organization and to the Kentucky Legislature. For more see SR113.
