Anna S. Hayden Townsend was married when she enlisted in the Army in Cincinnati, OH, according to her record in Ancestry. She was the wife of Frank Towsend. She was born in Cynthiana, KY, the daughter of Katie Williams and Ed Hayden. The mother and children are enumerated in the 1930 U.S. Census.
Anna S. Hayden was a 1941 graduate of Western High School in Paris, KY, and she attended Kentucky State University before joining the Women's Army Corp in 1945. Her family was then living in Connelly Alley in Paris, KY, according to her brother Paul Hayden's 1943 Army Registration Card in Ancestry. Paul and his sister Lavell Hayden were also listed in the Paris Kentucky ConSurvey Directory, 1950, p.235. Lavell lived at 785 Singer Alley and Paul lived at 786 Singer Alley.
Their sister Anna and her husband Frank moved to Illinois after her military service, they lived in Chicago. Additional details about Anna's life are mentioned in the 2014 memorial in her honor, the Illinois Senate Resolution SR1218 (online). Senator Mattie Hunter sponsored the resolution.
Anna Hayden Townsend was recognized as a licensed cosmetologist, a data entry specialist with the Chicago Police Department for 31 years, and as a founder of the AFSCME union local for civilian employees at the Chicago Police Department central headquarters. Anna S. Hayden Townsend died in 2013.
