Colored Column (Winchester Newspaper)

The Winchester News began publishing in 1908, which was the same year that the newspaper included the "Colored Column." The column initially consisted of one paragraph, but soon grew in length and included news about African Americans in Winchester, as well as those in other Kentucky cities and the national news. The newspaper was sold in 1912 and the name changed to Winchester Sun. Full text of the "Colored Column" is available in the Winchester News for the years 1908-1912 in Kentucky Digital Newspaper Program and Chronicling America. For a history of the newspaper, see Winchester News, at Chronicling America.
