Thomas, John L.

John L. Thomas, a trombonist, was born in Louisville, KY and raised in Chicago, IL. He played and toured with a number of bands, including those of Kentucky natives Fess Williams and Zack Whyte. He recorded with Louis Armstrong and his Hot Seven, replacing trombonist Kid Ory.

Thomas left music for 10 years, returning in 1960 as a member of Franz Jackson and the Original Jass Al-Stars. The group played at the Red Arrow Night Club in Stickney, IL.
